Smitten with the Mitten – visiting Michigan and more

Welcome back friends,

This marks the 11th day of living/traveling in my car and I have a new addition. Thats right, I decided to bring my dog (Delilah) along for journey. I haven’t done as much exploring as I thought I would at first, but I have done a lot of adjusting and driving….so that’s pretty much the same thing, right? This is Delilahs second day of the car life and she seems to be adjusting well….and me, well I am still figuring out how I am going to shower when there are no friends or doggy day cares around to watch her. We will cross that bridge when we get to it though. Let’s talk about how things have went so far.

After I decided to leave New York and the falls (because I couldn’t find my passport to go into Canada like I wanted to), I decided to drive the 3 hours to Cleveland. When I lived in Michigan I planned on visiting at some point, but never did, so I thought why not now?! It wasn’t a bad visit. I went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the park right beside it, and an Art Museum (don’t ask me which one though). Aside from those, I wasn’t the most impressed with Cleveland, not a bad city, actually pretty cool…..just a lot when you’re living out of your car. So I did the next reasonable thing and moved right along to my next destination.

Visiting Lansing, MI wasn’t something I had planned on until I wanted to see my friend. Then, I was like welp I guess I might….I had a lot of mixed emotions and anxiety…to put it into perspective I used to live in the area and didn’t have the best time when I lived here. I burnt a lot of bridges and didn’t want to risk running into anyone from the other side of those bridges, left a lot of things in ruins, cut ties, and I did a lot of self sabotaging here. It wasn’t all bad, but thats how it was left. As you can imagine, going back took a lot of courage. I am actually pretty impressed with myself as I sit in this very town and write about it now. It turned out to be a great visit. I saw friends I had not seen in over a year. I went to yoga, my favorite parks, coffee shops, and restaurants, I let my friend style my hair, it was just such a healing experience to come back. It went so great that I had even decided to stay a bit longer than a few days and made plans for this week….without regard to the fact that I had also made plans to go to a concert with another friend 8 hours away for the weekend. So I did what any non-reasonable person would do and stayed committed to my poor planning.

Blue Owl coffee shop is my favorite, I unapologetically went here every day I was here.

I drove the 8 hours just in time for the concert. Which was amazing. I also managed to pick up my dog, get an oil change, and do laundry all within the two days I was there. So needless to say, spending 16 hours in a car wasn’t a complete waste. I didn’t logically think through how much I was going to have to rearrange my car to provide Delilah with optimal space, but I somehow managed every time we stopped for the last 32 hours to move stuff around and make it perfect. I am now back in Lansing for a few days, I think my next stop is going to be the UP, Pictured Rocks has been calling my name for awhile now (as long as it is not too cold for us). I feel like there is more I should give you guys in this post, especially now that I am actually out and adventuring again, but as I currently sit in this weird laundry mat parking lot waiting for my bedding to dry, I realize that I’d rather you guys tell me what kind of post you want to hear. What do you want me to talk about? What kind of questions do you have? Advice? Let me here it….
